Zaurus UK UsersWe Zaurus users in the UK face a number of problems compared with our friends in the USA, and all of us outside Japan are disadvantaged. Since the days of the 5x00 series, the Zaurus has not been sold in Europe, and only the 6000L was sold in the USA. The 6000 was cut short in the USA unexpectedly, leaving some people high and dry. This causes the following problems:
At the moment there seems only one supplier in the UK of the Zaurus, and that is Fig Labs. In Europe, TriSoft import Zauruses from Japan and make the hardware CE approved. Both companies offer repair and service facility, as well as being helpful and friendly members on the OESF forums. If you have a broken Zaurus, the chances are that these two companies can repair it, however, if the screen is broken it may be beyond economic repair and cheaper to buy a second hand low-end Zaurus in order to extract the screen. Ebay is a common source of Zauruses, as is the OESF for sale/wanted section. However, do be careful to check whether there is any warranty on the device, and whether the warranty includes a service to send the Zaurus to Japan for repair on your behalf and includes the cost of shipping!
